What better way to kick off Earth Day than a BioBlitz!

A BioBlitz is a communal citizen-science effort to record as many species within a designated location and time period as possible. Using the iNaturalist smartphone app, citizens will take pictures to document and identify as many species as possible. BioBlitzes are a great way to engage the public to connect to their local environment while generating useful data for science and conservation. They are also an excuse for naturalists, scientists, and curious members of the public to meet in person in the great outdoors and are a lot of fun!

The two day event will consist of guided day and night hikes through a variety of ecosystems, as well as specimen tables at the trailhead. Master Naturalists are needed to lead short guided hikes! The hikes will be held on the Bethel Mountain bike trail, which has several different trailheads. Habitats include pine savannah, pitcher plants, and hardwood forest. These habitats serve as themes, along with birds, insects, and herps. If you are interested in assisting with the hikes, please contact Loren at the email address or phone number listed above!
