Training Description: 

qGIS is an open source (free) platform that is extremely useful for making maps and conducting spatial analysis. Whether you need to make maps of local recycling centers or map out restoration projects, qGIS can do it all. Mississippi State University is offering a basic qGIS training at the NOAA Disaster Response Center in Mobile, AL on August 2 from 9am to 1:30pm. Lunch will be provided. Prior to the workshop, you will need to download and install qGIS on your computer. The software is free and can be found at (http://www.qgis.org/en/site/forusers/download.html). Please RSVP to Gillian Palino (palinog@ufl.edu) by July 28th if you plan to attend. 

The agenda for the meeting will roughly be:

9:00 to 9:30 - Welcome and introductions

9:30 to 10:30 - Intro to qGIS

10:30 to 11:00 - break and discussion

11:00 to 12:00 - Examples of mapping products and how to make them

12:00 to 1:00 - Lunch (provided)

1:00 to 1:30 - Discussion of mapping needs and followup training suggestions
