Audubon Mississippi is in need of volunteers to help protect vulnerable beach-nesting birds during the breeding season. Volunteer “stewards” are needed throughout the season, but most importantly during the 4th of July holiday. Volunteers can sign up for shifts to protect nesting Least Tern and Black Skimmer colonies. Stewards act as colony sentinels, preventing disturbance to the nesting birds and chicks, while also educating and interacting with beach-goers to promote awareness of the threats to beach-nesting birds.
Multiple opportunities are held each summer to recruit and train new volunteers. As the 2018 season approaches, check out our Facebook page for events!
Shifts for stewardship are posted on our volunteer website periodically during the summer months, as needs demand.
