2024 Snappy Sync Soiree and Firefly Tours

The 5th Annual Snappy Sync Soiree and Firefly Tours at the Mississippi Craft Center will be happening May 16th-19th! Claire Graves, the coordinator and one of our own Master Naturalists, is looking for several volunteers to help with the event. Volunteer Opportunity 1:  Serving as a Firefly Tour Guide

Guides will conduct tours in pairs for one or more nights of the event. You will need to be at the Mississippi Craft Center from 7:30pm-10:15pm on your assigned night(s). It is fine if you are only available for some of the event dates. This volunteer opportunity would be best for Master Naturalists who are:

• comfortable walking outdoors over uneven ground at night with limited lighting
• confident public speakers / educators
• enthusiastic about sharing Mississippi's natural wonders!

You do not need to  know a lot about fireflies to volunteer! You will receive training and support!

Training:  Each volunteer tour guide will be required to participate in one evening training session on Wednesday, May 15, from 7:30-9:30pm at the Mississippi Craft Center. Training participants will:

• learn about snappy sync fireflies and other common firefly species that visitors may see on the tours,
• receive guidance on best practices for leading effective tours,
• practice giving a tour, and
• familiarize themselves with the logistical details for each night of tours.

Volunteer Opportunity 2:  Serving at the Firefly Tour Welcome Table

2 volunteers are needed each night to serve at the welcome table. Their responsibilities will include checking tickets, helping guests prepare flashlights for the tour, answering questions, and getting people pumped up to see fireflies!

Welcome table volunteers will need to be at the Mississippi Craft Center from 7:30-10:15pm on their assigned night(s). There will be a brief volunteer meeting prior to the tours kicking off each evening, and volunteers will be briefed on all the logistics.
