Duties:

I am in the midst of sampling for my Master’s thesis, entitled: Factors influencing quality of citizen science-collected litter data and the retention of recruited citizen scientists. A large part of this study’s data collection relies on the help of volunteers and I’m reaching out to see if you’d be interested in helping me reach my goal!

If you participate in this research study, you will be asked to complete an online questionnaire that will take less than 10 minutes to complete. After completing this online questionnaire, you will be briefly trained on how to collect and sample marine debris in a classroom and/or field setting which will take about 90 minutes (per each protocol) to complete. There are currently two separate protocols to survey: microplastic filtering (laboratory setting) and shoreline debris data (beach setting). You may be recruited to complete one, or both, of these protocols. All volunteers will receive training at the MSU Coastal Research and Extension Center.

The following dates need volunteers:

Saturday, January 13th (9 AM - 12 PM): Microplastics

Friday, January 19th (9 AM - 12 PM) & (1 PM - 4 PM): Microplastics

Saturday, January 20th (9 AM - 1 PM): Beach Survey

Friday, January 26th (9 AM - 1 PM): Beach Survey

Saturday, January 27th (9 AM - 12 PM): Microplastics

If you’re interested in participating, please fill out the registration form!

Thank you,
